The Missouri Dairy Association (MDA) and the Missouri Dairy Growth Council (MDGC) are celebrating June Dairy Month with a tour and proclamation reading at the Scheer Family Dairy near New Haven on Thursday June 14.

The proclamation from Governor Nixon will be read at 10 a.m. followed by a tour of the new robotic milkers the Scheers have installed at their dairy.
The Governor’s proclamation reads that "the production, processing and distribution of dairy products creates over 24,000 jobs in Missouri and dairy-related employment provides over $1.2 billion in Missouri labor income.
"Furthermore, the Missouri dairy industry has an economic impact of over $8.5 billion and dairy products are a source of calcium, protein and other nutrients that are essential to a healthy diet."
"MDA and MDGC are pleased to receive this recognition," says MDA President Larry Purdom, a dairy farmer from Purdy and MDGC Chairman Dale Ludwig of the Missouri Soybean Program.
"It’s only fitting that we meet at Scheer’s to see the latest technology in dairy. They are the first dairy to install robotic milkers in the state," says Purdom.
"We anticipate a crowd of over 50 dairy leaders, industry representatives, state and national elected officials to attend Thursday’s celebration.
"Some of the notable attendees include Missouri Congressman Todd Akin (2nd district), State NRCS Director JR Flores, Missouri State Veterinarian Dr. Linda Hickam and Missouri State Milk Board Executive Director Gene Wiseman," says Purdom.
MDA is an organization of dairy producers, committed to promote, protect and enhance the Missouri dairy industry by working to insure the profitability of dairy producers.
MDGC is an umbrella council of producer groups and allied industry working together that has an interest in maintaining a viable dairy industry in Missouri.
