The Gallatin Board of Aldermen discussed the site assessment prepared by Snyder and Associates dealing with the proposed location of the new water plant during their meeting held on May 30.

Public Works Director Jason Mercer discussed the projects completed in each department in the last four weeks:

Water: pool maintenance for opening; many service orders and rereads completed; repaired water leak on Field Street and on South Clay Street.

Sewer: fixed sewer line on Corrine Street and on Richardson Street; new sewer installed on East Van Buren Street; jetted three sewers.

Street: jetted road tubes; patched pot holes; mowed sewer right-a-ways; hauled brush; all mowing of city property is completed; graded Elm Street.

Electric: trimmed trees on Omaha, Swope, Grand and Willow Streets and at the city cemetery; repaired lights on small baseball field; replaced oil circulating pump on generator; one new service line; three residential meter loops upgraded; one three-phase disconnect repaired; two cutouts replaced; two power outages repaired due to bad fuses.

Mercer also discussed the various issues with the city pool and problems with Well #2.

In other business, public comments were made regarding the band tax money being used for Chautauqua.

Police Chief Mark Richards discussed the submitted report on activity from May 14-30 with the following reports taken and tickets given: two dogs at large, two animal neglect, one property damage, one careless driving, four domestic assaults, one funeral escort, one concerned parent, one trespassing, one having more than three dogs, one juvenile with cut hand at police department (assist EMS), three suspicious activities, one truant pickup, one animal complaint, one burglary, three vehicle lockouts, one nuisance call, two careless driving, one power line down, one welfare check. There are five dogs in the pound.

Chief Richards discussed code violation procedures and conditional use permits.

Discussion was held on property being donated to the city.

Bills totalling in the amount of $16,633.41 were approved for payment.

An ordinance in support of Gallatin’s continued participation in the Great Northwest Wholesale Water Commission received two readings.

Discussion was held on the 2012 street project; and the city’s current cell phone plan.

Comments by aldermen were made regrading street repair techniques, electrical supplies and collection agencies.
