Lacey Edwards, 22, Hamilton, was seriously injured in an accident that happened at about 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, in Mercer County about eight miles west of Princeton.

According to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred as Stephen Farr, 23, Stewartsville, was northbound on Holly Road. He made an abrupt turn on his ATV. A second ATV, being driven by John Whitsell, 22, Clarksdale, struck the rear of the first ATV and then overturned. Whitsell and a passenger, Lacey Edwards, 22, Hamilton, were both ejected. Their ATV came to rest on its side on the roadway. Farr’s ATV came to a controlled stop.

Edwards, a Gallatin High School graduate, was taken by Life Flight Eagle to North Kansas City Hospital. Whitsell received moderate injuries and was taken by Mercer County Ambulance to Bethany Hospital. Farr received minor injuries and refused treatment. None of the three were wearing a safety device.

Whitsell’s ATV, a 2009 Suzuki King Quad, was extensively damaged. Farr’s ATV, a 2003 Polaris Predator, was not damaged.

The accident was investigated by Tpr. J.C. Acree, assisted by Tpr. B.R. Hilliard and the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
