The public is invited to the lighting of the Special Olympics torch at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 21, to start Missouri’s Law Enforcement Torch Run through Daviess County. The event will be held on the lawn of the courthouse in Gallatin. This year Special Olympics athlete Kris Critten will light the torch.
The Daviess County ceremony will initiate the second leg of the area’s seven-mile run which begins in Cameron at McCorkle Park. From Gallatin the torch will be carried to Trenton and from there to Chillicothe. The four-day relay will ultimately cover more than 950 miles with 1,000 runners participating.
This year will be the third time that the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office has participated. Law enforcement throughout Missouri will carry out the lighting and passing of the torch to kick off the State Summer Games from May 29 to June 1.
