My letter is in regards to the article about the horse rescue project. If you can call it that.
Reuben Heldenbrand NEVER used the land they are using. Because that land is worthless! There’s no nutrient value and it’s basically just a big rock! The article says they have 26 horses on about 28 acres. From my research you need about 6 acres per horse. You do the math. The horses kept there aren’t thriving nor are the ones that have been there the longest making any health progress what so ever. I would also like proof they have been vaccinated and provided w/acceptable veteranary care.
I have personally NEVER seen them bring water to the horses and have only seen hay out for them a couple times. And when there was hay it was left out side of a hay ring where it got trampled and used for bedding before they ate it. I personally find it appalling that they are using a dead man and his wife’s name to help them further their selfishness.
I have almost hit one of their donkey’s numerous times because they refuse to keep it w/in their fences. An animal isn’t likely to wonder if it is properly fed. Makes you wonder why it feels the need to roam the country side.
I’m sure there are other issues I’ve missed but I find it appalling that there was a lack of investigation before publishing such an article.
Thank you,
Christina Hood, Gallatin
