At their March 15 meeting, the Gallatin R-5 school board opted to stay with the five-day week for the coming school year.
The board rejected an option which involved switching to a four-day week. Switching to a four-day week had been discussed at length, and the school district had conducted two public meetings as well as public surveys about the topic.
Next year’s schedule will use a 168-day calendar, using a 5-day week with 12 full professional development days built into the schedule. Under this plan, school will begin at the same time, 8:04 a.m., and will be dismissed at 3:09 p.m.
This is a change from the traditional 5-day, 174-day calendar, which had 5 full and three half-days of professional development. Last year’s daily sessions for high school and junior high began at 8:04 a.m. and ended at 2:59 p.m. The elementary school began at 8:05 a.m. and ended at 3:07 p.m.
