“God moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform; He plants His footsteps in the sea and rides upon the storm!” ….. William Cowper
We live in a world chock-full of miracles! Some people don’t believe in miracles; I do!
Scripture defines a “miracle” as “any wondrous work of God.” We, however tend to limit our definition of miracles. Being very human, we think of a “miracle” as some happening outside the natural order of things. Miracles are those things beyond our knowledge or understanding. To us, a miracle is God acting in a super-natural manner. Miracles aren’t natural!
The Bible does not limit the power and grace of God. Any, and all, wondrous works of God are miracles! Therefore, any person or happening in which we see or feel God at work becomes a miracle.
There are miracles all around us. I stand in awe before a beautiful sunset; it’s a miracle. I rejoice at the birth of a baby; it’s a wondrous work of God. I listen to a choir singing, or hear the melodious song of birds; it’s a miracle. I see one person forgiving another; it’s a wondrous work of God. A “good samaritan” goes out of his way to be helpful and kind; it’s a miracle. A community of neighbors goes beyond the call of duty to support a friend-in-need; it’s a wondrous work of God.
The greatest miracle of all time is the resurrection of Jesus Christ! God loves us so much that He willingly sacrificed His Son on the cross. Jesus loves us so much that He willingly gave up his life to save our lives from the powers of Sin and Death. Evil killed Him, and thought they had won. Sin buried Him in the tomb, and thought they were rid of Him. Death tried with all his might to hold Him captive. All their efforts failed! Jesus, the Christ, rose in triumph and victory from the grave — the greatest miracle ever! No other religion on earth can make that claim. No other religion has a God who loves them and cares about them like Almighty God does. No other religion has a God who became a human being, who lived life to the fullest, who suffered and died for our sake, who by his sacrificial death is able to save us all from the power of Evil, Sin and Death, who rose from the dead and is alive and with us now! No other religion can offer such a miracle!
Wondrous works of God still happen! Take time to look around, and see just how many “miracles” you can count. Take time to enjoy the beauty and wonder of God’s world. Take time to love the people around you, all kinds of people. Take time to allow God to make you a “miracle” to another.
I believe in miracles! I see and feel the wondrous working of God all around me, every day! Praise be to God!
