Methamphetamine and marijuana were found March 9 in a consent search during a traffic stop on I-35. Roy Warner, 26, Mission, Kan., and Laura Malonado, 33, Independence, were arrested, each on two felony counts of possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute and a misdemeanor count of drug paraphernalia. They are being held at the regional jail on $50,000 bond. Eighty grams of marijuana and a quarter-ounce of methamphetamine were discovered in the vehicle.

Sam Williams, 23, Des Moines, Iowa, was arrested March 12 for misdemeanor no valid license. He is being held on $500 bond.

Patrick Lauer, 28, St. Paul, Minn., was arrested March 10 for misdemeanor speeding and possession of marijuana. He posted $500 bond.

Lucky B. Deah, 22, Milan, was arrested March 12 for felony driving while suspended.

Steven L. King, 43, Olathe, Kan., was arrested March 10 on a Clay County warrant for misdemeanor no valid license. He posted $250 bond.

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they continue to work on a bridge on Forest Avenue in Washington Township.

Randy Sims and Carl Carder reported having attended the meeting of the Jefferson Township board on March 8. They discussed the CART program and bridges in the county.

Rick Eaton, Daviess County Nursing and Rehab Center, met with the commission regarding emergency equipment. The commission will temporarily provide an emergency generator in the event that the present generator fails in a disaster situation. They also discussed kitchen equipment, an ice maker, to be purchased from the Mays Trust Fund. Also, there is a drainage problem and a load of dirt is needed. The bridge crew will provide the needed dirt when weather permits.

Craig Lambert, Salem Township trustee, met with the commission concerning the CART mileage maps for 2012. Corrections were made.

The commission discussed the grant application for sheriff’s department vehicles. They will discuss the matter with the sheriff next week.

Mavis Neese, Grand River Township, met with the commission regarding the BRO 32 project.

Bids for the mowing of the courtyard were opened and were taken under advisement.

Bills were audited and paid.

In the afternoon, the commission inspected roads, bridges and brush around the county.

A request for a 30-day extension for brush removal was received from a landowner in Sheridan Township. The extension was granted to April 15, 2012.

Jeff Riley met with the commission requesting information on a possible road vacation in Washington Township. There was no record of the road ever being on the CART program back to 1975, nor any county funds expended there. Mr. Riley was informed that he needs to check for easements in the deeds and with the township board for maintenance expenses.

These are the unapproved minutes of March 12, 2012. All commissioners were in attendance. Minutes were approved.

Circuit Court

The following cases were heard by Judge Thomas Chapman on March 7:

A dissolution of marriage was granted to David L. Anderson from Shanda L. Anderson.

A name change from Geraldine E. Mahaffey to Geraldine E. Eddleman was granted.

The following cases were heard by Judge Jason Kanoy:

On March 6, a default judgment was filed for Thomas F. Sullivan and against Kristin A. Lewis.

On March 12, in City of Gallatin vs. Mitchel B. Lewis, the defendant’s motion to terminate probation was granted.
