As a nonprofit 501-C3 organization, the Gallatin Theatre League produces live theater performances on its own stage for a large area audience. Ticket revenue only partially covers the cost of production for the annual spring musical and fall play.
Therefore, fund-raising becomes a critical part of the ability to continue providing live entertainment in northwest Missouri.
Building maintenance and renovation are always a demand on finances, but the members feel fortunate to have been given a "home" in which to perform. Frank and Aline Thompson donated the theater building to the GTL in 1985. Since that time many improvements have been made in the structure of the building and to the theater infrastructure. Current GTL Board President Doug Nichols recently stated, "It is an absolute blast to "ham it up" on stage, but even more rewarding to be a part of something as special as this theater. I hope our community and our area can appreciate the treasure we all share in this theater building."
Last year the Patron’s Program raised funds to completely update the seating and flooring of the auditorium and to make wheelchair seating available. While no specific project has been named for the 2012 season, several ideas are "in the wings." This year the projects will be budget-driven. Committee members agree that there are "big ideas and little ideas and lots of both.
We’ll just do as much as we can with the funds we bring in."
