March 6, 2002 – Gallatin R-5 head wrestling coach Barron Gann has been named Coach of the Year from Class 1A-2A District 8. Coach Gann guided Gallatin to an unprecedented 8-0 dual record, third place finish in the GRC and Gallatin’s first-ever district wrestling title.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Warford of Pattonsburg entered two Pomeranians in the dog show held recently at the auditorium in St. Joseph. They returned home with six ribbons and two first place trophies.John Brown bowled a 194 in Wednesday night’s couples league and came back with a 225 in Thursday’s men’s league.Basketball is in its last round and Gallatin will soon say goodbye to seniors who made their last year a memorable one. From the boys’ team they are: Bobby Aulgur, Sam Curtis, Phil Houghton, Chris Stith and Larry Wilson. Deanna Lasher is the only senior on the girls’ team.Greg Frost helped NWMSU to its first MIAA Indoor Track Championship in 32 years at the conference track meet held in Warrensburg. Frost ran 1:55 on his 880-yd. leg of the two-mile relay to help win second place in the event. He also placed second in the 880-yd. run in a time of 1:57.80.Starting the game with a girl’s size basketball did little to district Gallatin’s boys from fulfilling district championship expectations. Will Salmon scored 24 points and Scott Shipers added 18 in a 59-48 victory over Maysville that brought the Bulldogs their first Class 2 district title.
