A celebration of life for Richard Spears will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2012, at the Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial with full military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at the Pilot Grove No. 1 Cemetery at Jamesport. The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1405 Main St., Blue Springs, Mo.

Richard Laverne Spears, 65, Blue Springs, died on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Independence.
Mr. Spears was born on July 29, 1946, in Trenton, the son of Delbert Laverne and Delores Elizabeth Payne Spears. He graduated from Tri-County High School at Jamesport, attended Trenton Junior College and received a bachelor’s degree from Truman State University in Kirksville in 1970.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army and entered active service on June 20, 1968. He served 15 months in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Mr. Spears was an accountant for Western Electric in Lee’s Summit, a salesman for Prudential Insurance and worked as an accountant at Cargill, Inc. and Bartlett Grain Company before retiring due to health issues.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Beverly McKiddy Spears.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Eilene Langford Spears of Blue Springs; two sons, Eric Matthew Spears of Blue Springs, and Christopher Michael Spears of Buckner; one brother, Michael of Chillicothe; one sister, Margaret Lovell; and five grandchildren.
