Feb. 27, 2002 – GHS senior Jake Humphrey, son of Dr. Stan and Jan Humphrey, signed a letter of intent to play football at William Jewell College. Humphrey, a punter, joined classmate Robert Heldenbrand in the HAAC. Heldenbrand signed to play football for Graceland University.

Feb. 26, 1992 – Gallatin’s Chris Belshe found his way into the record book at last weekend’s Class 1A-2A state wrestling tournament. Belshe pinned Ken Stokes of Flat River Center in :14, setting a new fastest pin time in the 171-pound weight class.

March 3, 1982 – The perfect season for the Winston Lady Redbirds ended Monday night when perennial power Northeast Nodaway defeated Winston, 44-43, at Civic Arena in St. Joseph. Lady Blue Vicky Schmitz scored 30 points, including 11 straight when Ravenwood trailed in the third quarter. Winston entered the contest with a 27-0 record. Northeast Nodaway brought a 26-1 mark into the game.

March 2, 1972 – Sports fans will be treated to the "Game of the Decade" as the Bulldog Booster Club has challenged the GHS faculty to a basketball contest. The faculty team includes stalwarts "Big Mac" McCarty, "Hot Rod" Weissenbach, "Killer" Miller, "Elbows" Michael, "Hookshot" Hiley and "Lanky" Steinbeck.

March 1, 1962 – Friday’s snow forced cancellation of Saturday’s special make up school classes and cancelled all school-related activities. Daviess County’s 21st snow of the season brought the grand total this winter to 60 ½ inches.

Feb. 28, 1952 – The Pattonsburg Pantherettes posted a 44-34 victory over the Winston girls to assure themselves at least a tie for the top spot in the Little Seven Conference. Dolores Shipers took top scoring honors for Pattonsburg with 21 points while Virginia Helms had 19 for the losers.

Feb. 26, 1942 – This area has been digging out from under the year’s worst snow storm. Between 10 and 12 inches fell in the county during a 24-hour period starting about 10 o’clock Sunday. Highways were blocked and two games remain to be played in the Class B basketball regional tournament here in Gallatin.
