Tory Wood relinquished her 2011 Courtwarming Queen crown moments before the tipoff of Friday night’s league game with Albany. Once the game started, she quickly established herself as the crown-bearer in both scoring and rebounding for a team looking for its first Grand River Conference victory of the season.

Wood scored Gallatin’s first six points and Kaitlyn Hefley knocked down eight of the next 12 to send the Lady Bulldogs well on their way toward getting that initial league win. The Lady Bulldogs beat Albany’s Lady Warriors in every statistical category to come away with a 56-34 victory.

Wood finished with doubles in scoring (17) and rebounds (14). Hefley totaled 16 points and picked up five of her team’s 19 steals.

The Lady Bulldogs also got big contributions from a trio of freshmen who tasted their first GRC victory. Sara Lin tossed in nine points and registered six steals and six assists. Kailey Salmon scored six points to go with five steals and five assists. Aubrey Nelson also added six points for Gallatin, now 1-2 in league play.

Gallatin out-rebounded Albany, 33 to 22, and forced 24 turnovers in the game. The Lady Warriors were limited to only eight multiple-shot possessions over the course of 32 minutes.
