The Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen voted during their Dec. 14 meeting to submit a letter to Mary and Stan Medeiros to vacate the premises of the factory building in Pattonsburg, due to failure to comply with the lease agreement.

The Medeiros leased the "cap factory" building in the summer of 2011. They said they planned to house a manufacturing business in the building and make rebar for bridges.

Questions were raised about the Medeiros at the November meeting. At that time, counsel members asked Economic Developer Richard Mooney if the new factory was up and running; had the Medeiros started paying rent; did they have the utilities in their name yet?

Mooney replied that they had not started paying rent and did not have utilities in their name.

The counsel voted that the Medeiros start paying rent and have utilities put in their name by Dec. 1, 2011, or they would have to move on.

In other business at the December meeting, the board stated that the Pattonsburg town survey is near completion and will be disbursed in January, 2012. Each household will receive one survey.

Water Superintendent Eddy Meador updated the council on the new well #7 project. Layne has drilled three test holes and on the last drill found a good well site and will continued drilling at this site for the city’s new well

The city will be going to a "No Cash" policy starting January, 2012.

Karen Shepherd was accepted as Custodian of Records.

Election candidacy filing started Dec. 13 and will run until Jan. 17. Two positions are up: Judy Horton, eastward alderman and Leonard Barr, westward alderman.

After returning from executive session the board voted to select Steven Grant as auditor.

The Northwest Round Table agreement was renewed.

The board voted to let Richard Moody go to the Great Northwest Day at the capitol to represent the city of Pattonsburg at a cost of $63.

Present at the regular Dec. 14 meeting of the Pattonsburg Board of Aldermen were Mayor Gene Walker, aldermen Lonnie Luke, Judy Horton and Larry McNeely; Water Superintendent Eddy Meador; City Clerk Karen Shepherd; Assistant Clerk Rachel Sweiger and guests Wes and Kendra Comer.

Other items on the agenda for the November meeting included the board’s vote to buy the Sony Handycam DCR-SX45, standard camcorder for $169.99.

The city’s contract with Veolia is up. Storm Ramos with Rapid Removal was present to discuss a waste removal contract; however the board voted at a special meeting on Nov. 28 to stay with Veolia.

The board agreed to dismiss inactive accounts that can never be collected.

FEMA has requested more information on the scope of work to be changed on the city’s drainage project. Mayor Gene Walker responded to their request and is awaiting response back.

The board voted to give a $100 gift card to each employee.

After returning from executive session, the board voted to hire Steven Loxterman and Wes Comer for snow removal.
