Santa Fe’s Lady Chiefs couldn’t hang with Gallatin’s girls last Wednesday at NCMC, but conversely, the GHS boys failed to find a way to keep their game with the Chiefs close.

The Lady Chiefs were no match for Gallatin’s quick hands and quick feet that made just getting the ball across mid-court an adventure. Just ask Kaitlyn Hefley, Sara Lin, Kailey Salmon and Tory Wood, who combined for 23 steals over the course of 32 minutes.
Gallatin’s girls upped their record to 4-3 on the season with a 57-42 win in the annual Holiday Hoops affair in the Ketcham Center. Outside of a brief 12-12 tie late in the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs led all the way to the wire.
Lin led Gallatin with 19 points and notched fives in steals and assists. Salmon scored 15 points and picked off six steals. Hefley added 12 points to go with highs of eight steals and seven assists. Kailey Elbert added seven for the Lady Bulldogs.
Take away the spectacular play of Lady Chief forward Lexi Smith, and the game would have been a rout. Even Smith’s 21 points and 16 rebounds couldn’t forestall a GHS victory.
Height played a big factor in Santa Fe’s 64-31 win in the boys game. The Chiefs sported four starters at least 6’3" tall and it showed on the glass (34 to 21 in rebounds).
Derrick Lin was the lone Bulldog to reach double figure scoring with 14 points. Daltonn Tompkins came off the bench to pull down nine rebounds in limited action.
Gallatin teams return to action at Pattonsburg on Jan. 3. The GHS girls are seeded third in the Lawson Tournament, which tips off Jan. 9. The Bulldog boys are the #6 seed in a very competitive field.
