Since competitive events are just around the corner, the Gallatin FBLA chapter has been working vigorously on their American Enterprise Project. The American Enterprise Project is a competitive event during which the Gallatin FBLA chapter teaches an enterprise concept to the school and/or the community. The chapter determined to target elementary-aged children.

The class chosen to complete the project was Ida Dowell’s third graders. When working with Ms. Dowell’s class, Megan Beck, Celsie Baker, and Jade Steele from the Gallatin FBLA chapter, gave pre-surveys to establish the students’ present essential economic understanding. Then they offered a lesson to the class spotlighting the evolution of money, the importance of money, and how to spend your money wisely by showing the class a PowerPoint and discussing each concept while also having hands on activities.

After the activities, the class took a post-survey containing the same questions to test their understanding of what they learned from the presentation. The findings of the post-survey concluded that the students greatly improved their knowledge of the three concepts that were presented.

Megan Beck, Celsie Baker, and Jade Steele will now be in the process of preparing a business report from their results and will be submitting it for competition at the Missouri State FBLA leadership conference in April 2012.
