Gallatin’s Lady Bulldogs failed to hold a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter and watched second-seeded Trenton rally for a 50-46 victory in Saturday’s third place game of the Gallatin Invitational Tournament.

A tight man-to-man defense held Gallatin to only one field goal in the game’s final seven minutes, to go along with six free throws down the stretch. Trenton led, 49-40, with 1:21 left to play, representing a 16-point turnaround from the 7:00 mark of the final quarter.

Though Gallatin’s defense limited Trenton to just six points in the final three minutes of the game, the fifth-seeded Lady Bulldogs could muster just four free throws and a Tory Wood bucket with six seconds remaining.

Gallatin took a 10-1 lead off the opening tip as Trenton turned the ball over four times in the first two minutes of action. Trenton’s press in the second quarter cut into Gallatin’s transition game and allowed Trenton to pull within 20-18 at half time.

Sara Lin paced Gallatin with 17 points and eight steals. Kaitlyn Hefley added 15 points on 55% shooting from the field.

Hamilton rolled to a 69-19 win over Gallatin in Thursday’s semifinal round. Katrina Grossman and Elsie Greenwood combined for 46 points for the Lady Hornets.

Hamilton won its third straight GIT title with a hard-fought 57-40 victory over Maysville. Each team fouled out three players and the Lady Wolverines lost another starter to injury. A 10-2 third quarter run broke the game open for the Lady Hornets.

Girls MVP Elsie Greenwood tossed in 18 points to lead the winners. Kylie Moore added 11 for Hamilton.
