The Winston R-6 Board of Education set the school board candidate filing period for the April 3, 2012, election from Dec.13, 2011, to Jan. 17, 2012, during their regular board meeting held Monday, Nov. 14. Candidates can file from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. after Dec. 13 and until Jan. 17, 2012, on regular school days.

A parent/student information meeting was held on Nov. 3

Preschool teacher Kim Novinger addressed the board about the preschool program.

The Annual School Audit for the Fiscal Year 2010-11 preformed by Kevin Hudson CPA was approved.

Program reports were approved in the areas of English as a second language, Services for migratory students, Homeless program, and Facility and grounds.

The board approved board policy update for Communications with Students by Electronic Media. This is a new policy for the district developed by the school’s policy service. The policy meets the requirements implemented by the Amy Hester Act passed by the Missouri Legislature during the legislative special session.

The superintendent reported that Missouri Association of Rural Education Conference for school board members will be held Feb. 23-25, 2012, at The Resort at Port Arrowhead in Lake Ozark.

The Daviess County Health Department conducted vision screenings for students and gave flu shots at the school.

Dr. Humphrey’s dental office has recently conducted dental screenings for elementary students.

Elementary principal reported elementary October attendance rate of 98.95%.

October Students of the Month are Blake Farr- kindergarten and Sophie Pliley- fifth grade.
