Denise Caven from the Village of Jameson, and County Commissioners Randy Sims, Carl Carder and Dave Cox attended the North Daviess R-3 School Board’s regular meeting held Nov. 14, to present a plan to set a disconnect switch at the school for an emergency generator. The plan is being offered through a grant from the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). The emergency generator would be used in case of a national or local emergency.
The commissioners considered Jameson to be an ideal location, since it is centrally located in the county, and the school building would be the most feasible and accessible location for the generator. The board approved a motion to have the transfer switch placed at the school for the emergency generator.
Two board members Lee Courter and Debbie Ray will be going off the school board in April. There will be two, three-year terms open. The first day for candidate filing will be Dec. 13, 2011, and will open through Jan. 17, 2012.
Bids will be solicited for snow removal.
The financial statement was presented and bills paid.
Quotes for used buses were received from National Bus Sales and American Bus sales. Mrs. Morris will give updates as she receives them.
The dish sanitizer has been maintained and equipped with supplies and is operational in the school cafeteria, enabling the district to discontinue the use of disposable plates.
Superintendent Becky Morris reported on parent/teacher conferences. She received a quote on surveillance cameras for the parking lot. She presented a list of ‘Instructional Minutes’ recommended by the state, and remarked that the district has met these recommendations.
Nov. 11 was early dismissal and was supposed to be used as a teacher inservice. But because of the water being shut off in Jameson for water line repairs the inservice was postponed to Dec. 7 after school.
The Winter Music Program is scheduled for Dec. 9.
Mr. Hartley reported on a faculty meetings; an assembly; a Veterans Day lunch and program with seven guests attending. One student won the ‘Voice of Democracy’ contest and will be going on to the district level. The last High School Academic meet was held. The team has had several matches, but no wins. FFA had Barnwarming. MAP Reward trip was at Powerplay. One elementary student attended the all-district choir in Plattsburg.
Several teachers have been to training , workshops and HDC network meetings. Teacher observations are complete.
Gregg Hartley presented a ‘Program of Study’ given to him by counselor Wendell Burns. The study describes the list of courses a student will need to take to achieve a certain study plan. The board approved the study.
The board went into executive session to discuss employee matters.
Next regular board meeting was set for 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, at Jameson.
