Sheriff’s Office

A counterfeit $100 bill was reported Nov. 15 by Ida Graber at H&M Country Store in Jamesport. Ms. Graber took the license plate of the customer who had the bill, which was taken by the store on Nov. 5. The bill has been released to Home Exchange Bank of Jamesport. The investigation is continuing.

Joseph Dragush, 66, Kansas City, Kan., was arrested Nov. 20 for burglary second degree, harassment and trespassing, in connection with an incident on Highway J in Daviess County. The sheriff’s office was dispatched to a residence near Kidder because Dragush would not leave the property where his ex-girlfriend resides.

Brenda Grooms told the deputy that she broke off the relationship approximately a month ago, but Mr. Dragush had been continuously calling her home phone and cell phone. When Dragush arrived at the residence, he was asked to leave by Grooms, her daughter, and her daughter’s boyfriend. Dragush is being held on $35,000 bond.

Tyler Erickson, 19, Kansas City, was arrested Nov. 19 for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. He was released on a summons.

Payton Finch, 19, Waynesville, Marcus Griffin, 24, Lamoni, Iowa, Tyler Cooperwood, 18, Cerritos, Calif., and Christopher Bennett, 18, Bronson, Iowa, were each charged Nov. 17 with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Each posted $750 bond.

County Commission

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission regarding ongoing projects in Jefferson and Colfax Townships. The 36" pipe for Waltz Avenue was delivered today. They also discussed repairs for a culvert on Harbor Avenue and a bridge on 292nd Street.

Chuck Weldon, Harrison Township board, met with the commission regarding the procedures involved in the establishment of a public road. The individuals will have to file with the county commission a "petition of establishment" with the legal description, signed by 12 registered voters, obtain necessary easements, and construct the road to CART specifications. They must also obtain an agreement from the township board for maintenance before the road will be placed on the CART program.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Garski met with the commission regarding the status of a road in Washington Township. CART road 387 extends for one-fourth mile east from the State Highway along the section line of 15 and 22.

The commission discussed priorities for bridge replacements and improvements to the county properties in the next fiscal year.

In the afternoon the commission inspected roads and culverts in Salem Township. They also checked a blocked road in Union Township and a bridge in Washington Township.

The commission inspected the tuckpointing project on the courthouse, finding everything satisfactory and issuing the final payment.

Circuit Court

A dissolution of marriage was granted to John David Mathews from Brandi Dawn Mathews on Nov. 16. Her maiden name Hopkins was restored. The case was heard by Judge Thomas Chapman.

Defendants found guilty in the Associate Division of the Circuit Court of Daviess County are listed below with the offense and fine assessed. Additionally, court costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $68.50 for moving traffic violations, and $116.50 in most criminal cases. Judge Daren L. Adkins presided over the following cases. 

Tambra J. Pierce, Altamont, careless and imprudent driving, $48.50; driving while revoked, five days jail, $25; driving while intoxicated, 30 days jail, $25; driving while intoxicated – probation revocation, probation revoked, 10 days jail, $25; careless and imprudent driving – probation revocation, probation revoked, seven days jail, $25.

Dianna Meyer, Altamont, passing bad checks, $25.

Albein S. Woody, Albany, driving while revoked, two days jail (board bill paid by defendant); no insurance, $103.50; failed to display plates, $28.50.

Rebecca S. Heckman, Kansas City, possession of drug paraphernalia, two days jail (board bill paid by defendant); possession of marijuana, six months jail, $25, suspended execution of sentence, two years probation.

Curtis A. Peavler, Shawnee, Kan., failed to yield causing an accident, $250.

Ezekiel M. Bridgeman, Winston, violate provisions of intermediate driver’s license, suspended imposition of sentence, one year probation; no seat belt, $10.

Karla M. Wilkerson, Weatherby, failed to drive right half of roadway causing an accident, $38.50.

John A. First, Jamesport, two counts of theft/stealing, 60 days jail, suspended execution of sentence, two years probation on each count.

Dustin R. Seitz, Gallatin, possession of marijuana – prior offender, 90 days jail, $25.

Judge J. Bartley Spear Jr. presided over the following cases:

Ruth Kurtz, Jamesport, minor visibly intoxicated, $500.

Eli N. Bontrager, Jamesport, minor visibly intoxicated – prior offender, $500, six months jail, suspended execution of sentence, two years probation, 40 hours community service.

Civil Court

Suits on account: Consent judgments were entered for Midwestern Health and against Joseph and Barbara Rose, and for Midwestern Health Management and against Dwight Redman. A default judgment was entered for Midwestern Health Management and against John Peery.

Small Claims: A default judgment was entered Nov. 15 for William K. Hobbs, Cameron, and against Thomas Bonderer, Winston. A trial de novo (appeal) was filed by Thomas Bonderer on Nov. 21.

Willis Fredrick Brown and Dorothy Elaine Speck, both of Trenton, were married Nov. 15 by Judge Daren Adkins.

Recorder’s Office
