Available subjects include kindergarten through grade five reading for children as well as a remedial reading program designed to privately help adolescents and adults learn to read well. The system was donated by the Rog Billings family.
"The Gallatin community has been good to our family and we are excited to help make this program available to dear friends in our hometown," said Rog Billings, the founder of Acellus. "Whether they are kids looking to improve their scores at school, getting ready for the GED, or adults just looking to fill in some of the blanks, Acellus can help. We are so very grateful that even though we live in a small town, we have a cutting edge library right here. Hats off to Jan and her team for making Daviess County Library such a wonderful asset to our community."
The Acellus learning program is used by thousands of students at schools in all 50 states. It integrates video from some of America’s greatest teachers in an interactive computer program designed to let students learn at their own pace. In addition to reading courses, Acellus offers many K-12 courses for language arts, math, science, and social studies.
Acellus is accessed through a web browser on a computer or phone, and allows students to work at their own pace through a given course of instruction. Acellus evaluates student responses through an interactive environment, and customizes courses to the need of each student – coupling comprehensive assessments with targeted video instruction in areas where deficiencies are identified.
"The library staff is excited about this new service and have been working hard to install and learn all the features of the Acellus Learning System," says Jan Johnson, Library Director. Patrons can sign-up for Acellus at the Library and then take the classes on the library computers or on their computer at home. To learn more about on-line classes, stop by either the Jamesport Branch or Gallatin Library soon.
