On Oct. 4, members from four classes in the Gallatin Agriculture department traveled to Maryville to participate in the Norwest Missouri State Fall CDE’s on the campus of Northwest Missouri State. Members were able to test the knowledge that they have gained from their agriculture classes in a competitive environment against other students from across Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa.

Members of the Ag science 1 class competed in Dairy Cattle Evaluation where they placed second, Ag Science 2 class members competed in Entomology and placed fifth, and students from the Greenhouse class participated in Floriculture where they received fifth place. One other team participated in the Career Development Events. Students from Natural Resource Mgt class in addition to members from previous Agronomy teams participated in the Agronomy CDE where they received first place.
This marked the third Agronomy event held at the university that a Gallatin Agronomy team has won. Overall it was a great day with two of the teams coming home with plaques and most of the students placing in the top 40% of their respective events individually. These contests are one way the FFA prepares student members for career success. Career Development Events (CDE’s) engage students in learning and make a real connection to lifetime goals.
