Jason Mercer was appointed Public Works Director for the city of Gallatin during a regular meeting of the Board of Aldermen held Oct. 24.

Jason, 34, Albany, has worked with city of Gallatin for the past couple of years. Before working for Gallatin, he was employed at several water plants and at Edwards Chemicals out of St. Joseph. The Public Works Director is in charge of the water, sewer, electricity and street departments.

In other business at Monday’s meeting, Police Chief Mark Richards submitted a repot on activity from Oct. 10-24 with the following reports taken and tickets given: one child neglect; one stealing/shoplifting; five speeding; one possession of stolen property; two maintaining a nuisance; one resisting arrest; one trespassing; two assist EMS. There is one dog in the pound. Chief Richards discussed code violations, repairs at the dog pound and a donation from Pamida to D.A.R.E. in the amount of $500.

The patrol cars will be handing out candy Halloween night and elementary children will be given glow sticks at school Halloween day.

Bills in the amount of $20,778.54 were approved for payment.

Discussion was held on the sewer plant, collection agency, city billboard and the new phones for city hall.

A resolution was approved establishing and designating reserved and van accessible parking spaces in the central business district.

City Administrator Zac Johnson and Police Chief Richards discussed Christmas trees around the square like last year.

Comments were made by aldermen regarding water line break at the car wash, community betterment program, mapping system for completed work orders and complaint about work order for ditch cleaning.

The board entered into executive session pursuant to hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.
