Dustin McDaniel, 17, Hamilton, was arrested Oct. 14 for felony tampering with motor vehicle first degree, property damage first degree, and misdemeanor theft.
According to the probable cause statement filed by Gallatin police, McDaniel allegedly entered multiple vehicles at several separate locations in Gallatin and took items from the vehicles. This occurred while McDaniel and other subjects were walking the streets of Gallatin on July 6 and Aug. 7, 2011.
Specifically on Aug. 7, McDaniel is accused of taking an Impala from North Searcy Street in Gallatin, driving it to Cameron, and eating at McDonald’s with money stolen from other vehicles. He and a juvenile then stole beer from an Altamont residence on their way back to Gallatin. Once back in Gallatin, McDaniel intentionally wrecked the car, causing approximately $7,000 in damage.
Evidence in the case includes surveillance video at McDonald’s, statements from other persons involved in the crimes, and a report from the Cameron Police Department. McDaniel posted $35,000 bond
