The Pattonsburg Board of Education took a final walkthrough to survey the new construction to the school’s domes and said they were satisfied with the results of the construction and the durability of the materials used.

he board said they believed that the improvements made will get water away from the building and give the school a long term solution to its building needs.

"The school would like to recognize Ronnie Cornett and BTC Bank for the wonderful lettering for the front entry way," said Superintendent Johnnie Silkett during a meeting of the board held Oct. 17. "The support received by them is very welcome."

The Booster Club has donated a $6,000 plus LED sign for the school’s roadside and the organization also paid for the metal tubing for the new dugout roofs that were completed last week.

In other business at the meeting, the auditors, Westbrook & Co., presented positive results to the board for the 2010-2011 school year. The board approved the audit.

Ms. Cornett’s elementary report indicated the ending attendance for the month of September was 96.89%.

Students who were recognized for demonstrating the character trait "respect" were: kindergarten – Kelsey Crabtree; first grade – Hannah Robertson; second grade – Kayleigh Pankau; third grade – Jaxson Waterbury; fourth grade – Grace Warner; fifth grade – Matt Henry; sixth grade – Brett Curtis. The Student of the month was Kelsey Crabtree.

Last Thursday, the elementary held their Bike-A-Thon, which was an annual fundraiser. The money raised will go back to the students to pay for admissions to field trips. There were 70 students participating in the event. The goal was to raise $1,000. The students raised $1,819.75. Prizes will be given to the top fundraiser in grades PK-2 and in grades 3-6, as well as to the students who rode/walked the most laps in these same categories, grades PK-2 and grades 3-6.

Parent-Teacher conferences are Thursday, Oct. 20, from 1:30-7:30 p.m. No school on Friday, Oct. 21. RED Ribbon Week is Oct. 24–Oct. 28. This is being hosted by Smokebusters. First Quarter Awards Assembly will be held on Monday, Oct. 24.

The Halloween parade is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 28 at 1:45 p.m. with parties at 2:20, or whenever students get back from parading through town. Lisa Teel has been very helpful in getting this organized between the school and the businesses.

Nutrition classes are scheduled once again through the Missouri Extension Office. This will begin Nov. 3 for students preschool – fifth grade. These classes will run through Jan. 5.

Nov. 2 – dental screenings; Nov. 4 – character assembly at 8:06; Nov. 11 – early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. for teacher in-service; Nov. 23 – early dismissal at 12:30 for Thanksgiving break; and Nov. 24 and 25 – no school – Thanksgiving break

Mr. Hodge reported an attendance rate for the month of September at 95.05%. Battle of the classes was a huge success with a great student turnout. Freshmen came in first and the juniors took second.

Trenton Band Day results: Drum-line first place and flag corp second place. HDC Band day was Oct. 14 at Ridgeway.

Fall Sports Results: HS Girls (14-7) JH Girls (10-2-2) JH Football (2-3). JH Boys and Girls basketball games have already started with 11 girls and 15 boys participating.

NHS inducted three new members Sept. 19, Samantha Parman, Aaron Hulet, and Lori West. FFA National Convention is Oct. 20-23, seven students attending. Early out is Thursday at 1 p.m., Parent Teacher Conferences 1:30-7:30, No school Friday. HS Academic Team has their first contest Oct. 26 with 11 students participating.

Oct. 22- NW Homecoming Parade; Oct. 28- blood drive and Barnwarming

The board approved the senior trip for the Pattonsburg senior class and they will be going to the Wisconsin Dells.

Seven students are planning to attend the FFA National Convention in Indianapolis Oct. 19–22. Last month the board had approved this trip. Students planning to attend are: Megan Crone, Kelly Warford, Shelby Dilley, Kurt Bowman, Geoffrey Hartley, Carl Parman and Carly Cornett.
