Dean Reno passed away comfortably in his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, Oct. 2, after a bravely fought battle with cancer.
Dean was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Civil Bend, Daviess County, Mo. His parents were Chris and Irma (Haver) Reno who farmed and operated a country general store. Dean was the youngest of five children and graduated from the Civil Bend School in 1944 before entering military service. Dean served two years in the United States Army, including one year of duty in post-occupation Japan. He attained the rank of Technical Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1946. Upon returning to the states, Dean attended the University of Missouri-Columbia Business School where he earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in accounting. After completing a three-year internship with Arthur Anderson in Kansas City, Dean received accreditation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) on Jan. 30, 1954 and soon thereafter opened accounting offices in Cameron and Kansas City.
Dean married Elizabeth (Betty) Alexander of Jameson, Mo., on June 28, 1958, making their home in Cameron. Together, Dean and Betty managed the accounting businesses, offering a diverse array of accounting services including: bookkeeping and payroll; performing audits for over 30 organizations, including city governments, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and utility companies; and tax return preparation for countless individuals, farmers, businesses, and corporations. The Kansas City office operated 40 years, closing in 1997, and the Cameron office just celebrated 54 years of continuous operation. Dean and Betty employed several people over the years, and Dean prided himself on offering internship experiences to youth seeking accounting careers.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Ross, Lenn, and Dale Reno.
Dean is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Reno; his sister, Donna Jean Lee, of Orangefield, Texas; his daughter, Renita Harvey and husband Charles of Independence, Mo., and their children Charles III of Independence and Staci of Springfield, Mo.; and his son, Kyle Reno and wife Jennifer, and their children, Alexander and Dylan, of Cameron.
