Pattonsburg R-2 is nearing the final stages of construction on its domes and an open house will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 30, the evening of the "Battle of the Classes."
The front entry and the metal siding will be painted in a cubical clay color, Superintendent Johnnie Silkett told the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education during their last meeting. Fencing has been ordered for around the air conditioners. A sealant will be sprayed on the split faced block to keep it from staining and to extend its life.
The LED (light emitting diode) scrolling display for the road sign, donated by the Pattonsburg Booster Club, should be shipped the first week of October.
In other business at their meeting held Sept. 20, the board learned that the number of performers in all areas of the MAP and EOC test increased. The high school and elementary buildings made AYP but the district did not make AYP in math.
The co-op with King City will continue for two years in high school football, junior high football and junior high softball.
Eighty-nine students are enrolled in K-6 and there are 18 preschoolers. There are four more students in K-6 than last year. Ending attendance for August was 97.3%. PACE assembly was held.
Students recognized for showing "responsibility" were — kindergarten: Gage Iddings, first grade: Jenna Heath, second grade: Quincy Crone, third grade: Lillian Carter, fourth grade: Shelby Snider, fifth grade: Kennedie Meadows, sixth grade: Katie Warford. Student of the Month was Jenna Heath.
Grade four attended the Daviess County Soil and Water Conservation District’s annual Conservation Education Field Day held at the Tom Lambert farm on Highway C east of Pattonsburg. The event included six stations that covered the topics of trees, erosion and soil conservation, wildlife habitat, water quality, rocks, glaciers, and honey bees.
HDC grade level meetings have begun.
Oct. 7 – PACE assembly for the character trait "respect"; Oct. 14 – end of first quarter with teacher in-service; Oct. 20 – early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. and parent-teacher conferences 1:30-7:30 p.m. No school on Oct. 21.
Attendance at the high school for August was 95.8%. The high school band, color guard, and the bantam football players were to be in the King City homecoming parade and drum line to perform at pep rally.
Mid-term was Sept. 20 and reports are being mailed out. Inducted into NHS were Lori West, Samantha Parman, and Aaron Hulet.
