In these times of high feed prices and reduced pasture availability, beef producers might want to consider fine-tuning their forage management to help reduce costs and get more out of their pastures. A meeting to discuss those management strategies will be held on Monday, Sept. 19, in three locations across northwest Missouri.

The first will be held in Holt County from 8-10 a.m. at the Mike Cotton farm near Forest City. Later that day, the meeting will be in Atchison County near Rock Port at the Tony McKenney farm from 1-3 p.m. The final meeting will take place near Maryville in Nodaway County at the John Schenkel farm from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Producers can pick which location is most convenient to attend.
A number of topics will be discussed, including the impact of continuous versus rotational grazing, pasture fertility, weed control, how to "read" your pastures, adding legumes, resetting pastures, the influence of grazing on different plants, maturity effects on quality, and fescue (turning a negative into a positive).
