Tanner Johnson and Graydee Rains of the Knee-Hi 4-H Club of Gallatin were selected as recipients of the first annual Gates Family Scholarship.
The Gates family from Daviess and Harrison Counties graciously donated money to be awarded to three youth involved in livestock production projects. Each scholarship is worth $250 and is awarded on behalf of the Gates family (Daniel G. Gates, Effie W. Gates and George O. Gates.) There were 16 applicants for this year’s scholarships. The winners were announced before the premium sale at the Northwest Missouri State Fair in Bethany.
The eligible applicants are to be 16 or younger and reside in Harrison, Mercer, Grundy, Daviess, Gentry or Worth Counties. The youth must be involved in livestock production projects through 4-H or their FFA chapter. Eligible livestock projects are cattle, swine, sheep, goats, chickens, and rabbits. The money is intended to further finance and expand their project.
Johnson is the son of Mike and Colleena Johnson of Gallatin. Tanner is involved in swine and beef production and is an seventh grader at Gallatin High School. Rains is the son of David and Julie Rains, also of Gallatin. Graydee is involved in swine production and is a fifth grader at Covel D. Searcy Elementary School in Gallatin.
The third recipient was Hannah Snuffer, an FFA student at Gilman City High School.
