The Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail needs a new roof and at the boards last meeting members agreed to re-bid the work at the prevailing wage. A new roof was expected to be expensive, running between $65,000 and $100,000.

Since then Administrator Bob Gray discovered that members of the jail board contracted Jared Seaton with SRI Contractors for roof repair in April of 2008. The cost for the repairs was $26,540. The work was done in the summer of 2008 with several equipment and weather delays. In July, 2009, the board complained of "issues" with the roof and noted that the roof had a 12 year warranty.

After being contacted by Gray, Seaton said he would honor the warranty and return to the jail at Pattonsburg and fix the roof at no cost.

The board will review the issue carefully before giving final approval.

Gray also reports that due to inadequate maintenance on the jails generator, a new one will need to be bought at a cost of $40,000. The generator runs on natural gas. The administration is waiting on approval of the board before it makes a purchase.

Gray said trustees from the facility will be assisting the Pattonsburg Street Department patching pot holes this week.
