The Green Hills Animal Shelter Obedience Classes have been the shelter’s most popular community outreach program. Volunteer Instructors enjoy helping owners and their pets gain respect and bond with each other. Dogs and their owners will learn the basics of teaching the dog to sit, stay and come, as well as other fun activities in the hope this will help make your dog a better and closer companion to your family.
To register for this class, please call the shelter at (660) 359-2700, go to www.greenhillsanimalshelter.org or email [email protected]. Application forms are also available at the shelter. The cost of this eight-week session is $80 and should be paid on the first day of class. All proceeds go to the Green Hills Animal Shelter, a private not-for-profit organization.
To participate in this class, your dog must be up to date on his/her vaccinations (Rabies/DA2LP-CPV/bordatella). Please check with your veterinarian and please bring a certificate or receipt of proof. Your dog should have the same handler for all eight sessions. The family member chosen to handle your pet should be able to control him/her to some extent prior to the classes.
Other family members are encouraged to come to class but it is discouraged to alternate handlers during classes. We will be moving around a lot, so please dress casually and wear comfortable shoes.
You will need a six foot nylon/leather leash. You will also need an appropriate size training collar (a "choke" chain or a gentle leader). If you are uncertain what to get, we will be happy to help you at the first class. Please bring your dog to the first class and be sure to have him/her on a leash. All of the dogs and handlers will have an opportunity to get acquainted, but please keep your dog under control at all times.
We look forward to seeing you and your dog at Obedience Class!
