We Need You!!
The VFW Post 2172 and the Ladies Auxiliary would like to challenge students to participate in the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Contest. Why? To let them express their views on democracy and show their patriotism.
The Voice of Democracy contest is open to students in grades nine thru 12 and consist of a 3-5 minute speech recorded on a CD. Students need to label the CD with their name, include a typed copy of the essay and completed entry form for submission. The 2011-2012 theme is "Is There Pride in Serving In Our Military?" Voice of Democracy is judged on delivery and content of the essay.
The Patriot’s Pen contest is open to students in grades sixth thru eighth and consist of a typed essay of 300 to 400 words with a completed entry form attached. The 2011-2012 theme is "Are You Proud of Your Country?"
All entry forms must be filled out correctly, and no names on the actual essay or mentioned in the audio.
Who can enter: any child that is enrolled in a public, private or parochial school or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions: or in an overseas U.S. military/civilian dependent school. Foreign exchange students, students age 20 or over and previous first place state winners are ineligible.
All county schools will be given information this week about the contests.

Local prizes for both contests will be: first place $50, second place $30 and third place $25. Each contest level will have prizes of either cash or savings bonds. The levels are district, state and nationals. Gallatin was proud to have a second place winner last year at districts, Samantha Boyd.
All entries must be turned into Sherri Carder by Monday, Oct. 31.
