A 6-week contest between 30 area restaurants has concluded with the announcement of the No. 1 area eatery by popular vote.
Nico’z Catering and Eatery of Chillicothe earned the #1 Overall Restaurant Award by a very slim margin over three runners-up. You don’t know about Nico’z? Well, they’ve been open for little more than two years at 705 Webster in Chillicothe, just east of Silvermoon Plaza. Read all about Nico’z and all the other contest winners in a full-page summary in this week’s Ad Pages shopper.
Jill Steward, office manager at the Ad Pages’ office in Chillicothe, says the number of ballots cast this year more than doubled when compared to last year’s inaugural contest. More than 400 ballots were tallied; over 100 persons cast their votes online. All 18 contest category winners are displayed on SlicedBreadAwards.com (as in "The Best ____ Since Sliced Bread!"). This website will continue to offer complete menus, photos, driving directions and related information for your reference until next year’s contest.http://www.SlicedBreaAwards.com,
Three Gallatin eateries, a new Jamesport restaurant, and a Polo drive-in restaurant all participated in this year’s contest, each earning honorable mention rewards despite the population (and hometown voter) advantages the restaurants in larger communities like Chillicothe and Cameron enjoy. Honorable mention for "Best Tenderloin" was particularly noteworthy for Dungy’s Market in Gallatin and for The Lunch Wagon in Jamesport since the tightest voting (besides Best Overall Restaurant) occurred in this category. Subway-Gallatin earned two honorable mention awards for "Favorite Lunch Place" and for "Best Bang for Your Buck." Gallatin’s Corner Café & Pizza was also a winner, receiving notice for "Best Coffee Place." All this means is you don’t have to drive far away for some really good places to eat out.
A special 12-page print edition featuring all 30 participating restaurants is available free for an extended time in selected dispensers in Gallatin and Hamilton. Look for the large green multi-bin outdoor dispensers at Corner Café & Pizza and at Dungy’s Market in Gallatin, at Hy-Klas Foods in Hamilton. Copies are also available at Gallatin Publishing Company, publishers of The Ad Pages printed each week in two editions: a west edition mailed into every household in Daviess and Caldwell counties (approx. 10,000 copies) and an east edition delivered into every household in Livingston County (approx. 10,000 copies).
