City Administrator Zac Johnson told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen during their meeting held Aug. 22, that DSL has been installed at city hall.
All other buildings will remain on wireless internet. He submitted a quote on leasing a new phone system from Windstream for city hall. The phone bill would be about the same as the current bill the city is paying. He also discussed issues with computer software at city hall.
Johnson said he is still working on the grant for recycle tubs and trash cans from Rapid Removal and they should be here by the end of September.
Police Chief Mark Richards submitted a report on activity from Aug. 8-22 with the following reports taken and tickets given: one illegal dumping; two no city dog tags; one gunshot heard; one tampering with vehicle; one property damage; two juvenile drug possessions; two felony property damage; one dog at large; one child not restrained; one child neglect; one trespassing; five stealing from vehicle. There are three dogs in the pound.
Chief Richards said he is gearing up for school to start and will soon be starting another D.A.R.E. class. The police department will also be doing a bicycle rodeo at the Chautauqua in a few weeks Chief Richards stated that he will be purchasing ballistic vests. He will use grant money to help pay for them.
Street Supervisor Teddy Holcomb stated that city crews will finish asphalt this week on East Berry Street. The crews will be working on cleaning up the Industrial Park and mowing along the road sides. The crews winterized the city pool and are hoping to work on a water leak near Dungy’s this week.
Bills in the amount of $65,719.15 were approved for payment.
Discussion was held on Low to Moderate Income (LMI) surveys, new water plant project, debt collection contract, workman’s comp insurance and police officers.
Johnson stated that the city did not receive the sidewalk grant (sidewalk by the school) he had applied for.
Eddie Dutro was removed from the Dockery Park Board.
Comments by aldermen were made regarding skunks.
The board went into executive session pursuant to hiring, firing, disciplining or promoting employees.
