Suspicions about financial questions arising at the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail may be answered after two separate audits are performed.

One of the audits is an independent audit requested by the jail administration and board. It is being done by Steve Grant, CPA, and is expected to be finished within the next few weeks.

The other audit involves State Auditor Tom Schweich who began auditing DeKalb County on July 14. In conjunction with that audit, the supervisor has visited the jail to overview some of its business practices.

The findings of both of these audits will be made public upon completion.

The Daviess-DeKalb County Jail is running at around 157 inmates, according to Administrator Bob Gray during a report at the regular meeting of the jail board held July 22. A inmate contract has been received from Scotland County. An inmate contract with Knox County is pending.

Assistant administrator interviews were set to be held July 25. Four new applications were received and previous applicants were notified again as to the job opening.

Gray will inquire about the cost of additional fencing to separate the outside recreation area from the parking lot. He will also look into the possibility of connecting the annex to the main jail by way of fencing. He will talk to the city about boundaries.

The financial report was approved. Sales tax account has $288,179.91. Operating account has $506,489.97. Swanson profits for July were $486.68 and the commissary grossed $7,988.99. The jail has an $800,000 certificate of deposit at BTC Bank with accumulated interest of approximately $4,000.

One new bid for fixing the roof has been received with several more pending. Bids will close at the end of the month. Bids include repair to the trailer roof.

Two new deep freezes were purchased for the kitchen after the walk-in quit. The walk-in freezer will now be used to store dry goods.

Robert Mazur gave the Independent Investigative Report which consisted of a press release. Charlie Zitnik with D.A. Davidson said the jail refinancing is progressing as planned.

The board entered into closed session.
