The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education approved the purchase of the Head Start building for the amount of $10,500 during their regular meeting held July 19. The district will take over ownership of the facility from North Central Missouri College at the beginning of August.

The tax rate hearing was set for 6 p.m. on Aug. 18 in the superintendent’s office, immediately before the next regular board meeting.

Tuition was set at $7,000 for out-of-district students. Discussion was held on tuition waivers.

Coach Brent Burke and Coach Kevin Myer were introduced to the board and they each gave a short report on their activities and plans for the coming year.

A proposal for dual credit courses was presented by Counselor Joyce Cox and approved by the board. Ten classes will be offered through four different colleges. There are 32 credit hours available for GHS students.

The board entered executive session to discuss personnel.

Following the executive session, gate workers received an increase in pay to minimum wage.

The position of high school aide was offered to Amy Meyer.

Superintendent Dennis Croy gave reports on the final yearend balances, the upcoming audit, the annual ASBR, and the district’s valuation.

A facilities walk-around was scheduled with the principals for 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 18.

Dates and times for school registration were presented for board approval. (These will be publicized in the North Missourian before school starts.)

A dance guest form was approved.

Mr. Croy also reported on staff development scheduled before classes begin. There will be a speaker to kick off the year.

The Grand River Conference has voted to admit Braymer into the conference. Braymer will become a full member next year and will take the place of Penney High School at Hamilton, who will be leaving to join the KCI Conference.

The board approved an increase in mileage pay from 35 cents per mile to the state level of 52 cents per mile.

The next meeting was set for Aug. 18 at 6:30 in the high school library.
