Damon Shapiro was arrested July 9 on an outstanding Daviess County warrant. According to the probable cause report, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office had received information from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office that Shapiro would be traveling to Coffey in a red Saturn sometime around 10 p.m.
Officers maintaining surveillance observed a red Saturn driving to a residence on North Street in Coffey. Shapiro was identified as the driver, and he was arrested without incident. Shapiro and a female passenger, Bianca Mercer, both were found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
Shapiro, 29, Bethany, was charged with felony possession of controlled substance and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia and is being held on $85,000 bond, $35,000 on the recent charge and $50,000 on the original warrant from May 23 for burglary and assault. In May, Shapiro allegedly entered the Coffey residence of Matthew E. Jacobs through a locked door and struck him with a vacuum cleaner.
Mercer, 20, Maryville, was charged with felony possession of controlled substance. She is being held on $35,000 bond.
Caleb Blomberg, 21, Wolbach, Neb., was charged July 10 with a probation and parole violation on an original charge of distribution of controlled substance. Bond was denied.
Krystal Mann, 29, Raytown, was charged July 11 with a probation and parole violation on an original charge of receiving stolen property. Bond was denied.
Rita Kupferschmidt, 49, Trenton, was charged July 8 with felony passing bad checks. She posted $5,000 bond.
Phillip Williams, 42, Lee’s Summit, an inmate at the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail, was charged July 6 with misdemeanor assault on corrections officer and endangering corrections officer. Bond was set at $2,000.
Daniel Williams, 23, Winston, was charged July 10 with misdemeanor DWI. He was held for 12 hours, processed and released.
County Commission
Randy Sims reported that he had been in contact with a restoration company to inspect and repair the dome and that the glass in the south entryway will be replaced this week.
David Cox contacted the insurance company regarding the bridge in Jefferson Township destroyed in September 2010 by an overweight rock truck. A settlement agreement for $24,000 was executed.
Mike Bohannon and Gary Holcomb, Marion Township, met with the commission reporting that they will be ready for CART rock in August. They also discussed methods of funding for motor grader upgrades and sites needing brush removal.
Georgia Maxwell, recorder, reported her annual request for reimbursement in the amount of $49,162 from the State has been submitted.
At 9:30 a.m., as advertised, the commission adjourned to meet as the annual Board of Equalization, meeting again in regular session at approximately 11:30 a.m.
James Lewis, bridge supervisor, met with the commission discussing repair projects on a bridge in Lincoln Township.
The treasurer’s monthly report was reviewed and bills were audited and paid.
In the afternoon the commission inspected roads in Jefferson, Marion and Benton Townships, finding that some brush has been removed. They also inspected a road on the county line that is eroding along Grindstone Creek and is on the FEMA list for reimbursement.
These are the unapproved minutes of the July 11, 2011, meeting of the Daviess County Commission. Commissioners Randy Sims and David Cox were in attendance, as well as Carl Carder. Minutes of the last meeting were approved.
Circuit Court
Cases bound over from the Associate Division to the Circuit Court: State vs. Janice S. Wynne, Trenton, possession of controlled substance at correctional facility; State vs. James W. Harris, felony driving while revoked.
State vs. Brian K. Lurten, Coffey, three counts possession of controlled substance, class C felony, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and three misdemeanor counts of drug paraphernalia.
Civil cases filed: Certificates of lien, DOR, taxes, have been filed by the State of Missouri against Martin Charlotte, Michael A. and Jennifer E. Rochester, Michael D. Arnold, and Eddie L. Lee.
Associate Division
Lisa L. Green, Cameron, was charged July 11 with felony passing bad checks.
Traffic Fines
The following are traffic cases which were heard in the Circuit Court of Daviess County involving a plea of guilty without contest and payment by mail of the standard fine plus court costs. The total fines assessed for defendants who reside outside of Missouri were $1,483 for 24 cases. Total fines assessed for defendants who reside in Missouri were $948 for 14 cases. Court costs collected for the State of Missouri amount to $58.50 for moving traffic violations. Missouri defendants, offenses and fines are listed below:
