The new budget for the Gallatin School District expects a positive balance of $51,899 for the 2011-2012 school year, according to Superintendent Dennis Croy who presented the budget to the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education during their meeting held Thursday, June 16.

School nurse position was offered to Kelly Walker; maintenance supervisor to David McLey; bus driver to John Attigliato; custodian to Jim Borges. Debbie Sweatman will serve as an independent contractor for the literacy coaching for reading teachers.

A bid for $21,000 from Griffin Asphalt and Construction, LLC of Trenton was accepted for the sealing of the drives and parking lot at the high school.

Summer projects include repairs on the vocational building restroom, completion of work orders from teachers, trimming trees, repairing the windows in the press box of the football field, and the gym lighting project. Summer work is ahead of schedule.

The board then received information on the final general ledger for the current term. Board members reviewed the totals from Fund 1-2-4. They also balanced the student activity accounts, reconciled the budget to the actual figures and zeroed out the teacher fund to close the financial year.

Teresa Monteith, food service director, gave a report on menus, meals served, free and reduced percentages, high school and elementary break downs for lunches and breakfasts, and new regulations for serving meals. Many of the changes are coming from the USDA and are federally mandated. She also discussed the food service staff.

Student handbook updates were approved.

Lunch and activity fees were set at the same rates as last year. These will be available to the public in the school publications before August.

The board adopted the current conflict of interest and financial disclosure policies.

The board entered into executive session.

Next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on July 19.
