Nathan Uthe of Altamont, a nursing student at North Central Missouri College, has been awarded a $500 scholarships from Hedrick Medical Center Auxiliary.

The Hedrick Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 for the purpose of encouraging qualified individuals to pursue or enrich a career in the health care field. To date, 112 scholarships have been awarded for a total of $56,000. Scholarships are awarded once a year with a May 15 application deadline.

Culver-Stockton

Gilman City native Monica Wilson was named to the Culver-Stockton College Dean’s List for the spring 2011 semester.

To be named to an honors list, Culver-Stockton College requires students to meet high academic standards. President’s List students have earned a 4.0 GPA and were enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours. Dean’s List students have earned between a 3.5 and 3.99 GPA and were enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours, with no grade lower than a C. Honor Roll students have earned between a 3.2 and 3.49 and were enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours, with no grade lower than a C.

Culver-Stockton College is a private, liberal arts college located in Canton, Mo.

Drury degrees

Catherine Anne Jones of Jameson graduated summa cum laude, with a bachelor of arts degree in biology, psychology/global studies from Drury University. During its spring commencement 246 students received degrees at the Traditional Day School ceremony held in the O’Reilly Family Event Center on May 14. O’Reilly replaces Weiser Gymnasium as the graduation venue. The new arena features air conditioning, 21st century technology and more comfort for graduates and spectators.

Drury Board of Trustees member Jack Stack told the graduates, "There is no such thing as a bad first job. There is always a lesson you take away. Seek excellence. Don’t expect to start at the top. Rise to the top."

Former Drury student, Board of Trustee member and long-time Meet the Press producer Betty Cole Dukert received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Western announces President’s Honor Roll

Missouri Western State University announced the names of 343 students selected to the President’s Honor Roll for the spring semester 2011. Students who have carried 12 hours or more for graded credit and have earned a grade point average of 4.0 qualify for the honor.

Students from our area on the Honor Roll were Jaclyn Danielle Ray of Coffey; Matthew Dalton Atkinson, Jamie Deelain Brinnen, and Angela Teresa Hogan, all of Gallatin; and Jeffery Duane Parton of Pattonsburg.

S&T graduates

David Bennett III of Jamesport, earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering cum laude, and Joseph William Michael of Winston, earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla, during commencement ceremonies held May 6-7, in the Gale Bullman Multi-Purpose Building on campus.

The university awards bachelor of science, bachelor of arts, master of science and doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees.

Missouri S&T has traditionally recognized graduates earning a bachelor’s degree with honors by placing the designation "summa cum laude," "magna cum laude" or "cum laude" on their diplomas. The highest honor, summa cum laude, is awarded to students who have earned a cumulative grade point (GPA) of 3.8 or above on a 4.0 scale for all courses counting toward the degree. Magna cum laude is the designation for a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79, and cum laude indicates a GPA of 3.2 to 3.49.

Missouri University of Science and Technology, formerly the University of Missouri-Rolla, announces the names of area students who made the honor list for the 2011 Spring semester — Shalyn LeAnn Selby of Altamont, a senior in biological sciences; William Cody Selby of Gallatin, a senior in civil engineering; David Bennett III of Jamesport, a senior in chemical engineering; Angela Nichole Watts of Kidder, a senior in architectural engineering; Frank Edward Marshall of Pattonsburg, a freshman in physics; Joseph William Michael of Winston, a senior in mechanical engineering.

Those on the list carried a minimum of 12 hours and had grade point averages of 3.2 or above out of a possible 4.0
