Funeral services for Richard Lowe will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, at Jamesport Baptist Church. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the church. Friends may call after noon on Sunday at McWilliams Funeral Home, Jamesport. Memorials may be made to the Jamesport First Responders, in care of the funeral home.
Richard Lowe, 87, died Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab.
Richard was born March 9, 1924, to Carl and RoseLea (Max) Lowe in Chillicothe. His mother died when he was three-years-old. In 1928, his father Carl married Zula, who helped raise him.
He graduated from Jamesport High School in 1942.
He served in the Army during World War II, serving for two years. During that time he received five bronze campaign stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning home, he began his career working for the Rock Island Railroad, retiring in 1982. In 1936, the family bought a farm south of Jamesport where he raised cattle and row cropped until moving to town in 1995.
Richard was a member of the Jamesport Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Zula Lowe; brothers, Carl W. Lowe, Jr., and Charles Lowe.
Survivors include companion of 16 years, Kathryn Page, Jamesport; four nephews, Stephen Lowe of Vergennes, Vt., Charles Lowe, Jr. of Colonial Heights, Va., Michael Lowe of Sunland, Calif. and Donald Lowe of Los angeles, Calif.; one niece, Patricia Turberville of Anchorage, Alaska; five great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lowe of Colonial Heights, Va.; and special caretakers, Larry and Jerry Page of Jamesport.
