Kyle Croy, a member of the Gallatin FFA Chapter, has been chosen to represent Missouri as its candidate for FFA Star American Agri-businessman.
The selection was made though the Missouri FFA Association and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Selection was based on the candidates information provided in their American FFA Degree application and other supplementary documentation.
Kyle will now be judged along with other Star Candidates from around the United States. Finalists will be announced in August and the top four candidates will be interviewed and honored at the 84th National FFA Convention, Oct. 19-22, in Indianapolis, Ind.
The National FFA selects Star candidates in the areas of Agri-Science, Placement in Agriculture, Production and Agribusiness. Finalists receive $2,000 and National Stars receive an additional $2,000 as well as a medal and a plaque for their efforts.
Kyle joined the Gallatin FFA Chapter in 2003 as a junior member. He graduated from Gallatin R-5 High School in 2009. He is currently attending Northwest Missouri State University, and majoring in agriculture business. He served as chapter president and vice-president as well as an Area II officer. He was a member of four state Career Development Event teams, in Poultry Judging, Dairy Cattle Judging, Agriculture Mechanics and Livestock Evaluation. He has received his Greenhand, Chapter and State Degrees and was the Area II Star Farmer.
Kyle was the state winner in the proficiency areas of Diversified Agriculture Production and Agriculture Sales and was the state runner-up in Swine Production. He has also won various awards at the local, area, state and national levels while showing swine. Kyle was a member of the Missouri Agribusiness Academy, attended the Washington Leadership Conference and many other leadership activities. He is the only member of the local chapter to have ever been named Star Farmer, Star Agri-businessman and Star in Placement.
Kyle’s Supervised Agriculture Experience program has included swine production, soybean and forage production, specialty animal production, wildlife management, placement in agriculture, agriculture mechanics and agriculture entrepreneurship. He has sold breeding swine and show pigs into 16 states, Canada and Mexico. He also began his own business, selling farm machinery and trucks. He is currently working at Terry Implement Company and for Critten Farms, as well as managing the family farm and operating his business. Kyle has been a Dean’s List student and has been involved in the national PAS organization and the NCMC Ag Club. He is also a member of the First Christian Church.
