Danny Helenbrand, 58, of Altamont, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Cameron Regional Medical Center. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Family visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be at Snyder Cemetery, near Altamont. Memorial contributions may be made to KAW First Responders, in care of the funeral home.

Danny was born October 18, 1953 to Vincil and Pauline (Charleston) Heldenbrand at the family home in Altamont. He graduated from Gallatin High School in 1971 and attended college at the University of Missouri in Columbia, graduating in 1975 with a degree in agriculture and education. Danny was united in marriage to Ann Armitage August 24, 1975 in Gallatin. The couple settled on the Heldenbrand family farm, where they lived all their lives. Danny’s love for agriculture started at an early age, he took great pride in farming and raising his cattle. In November of 1992, Danny was elected as the Daviess County Commissioner for District 2, a position he has held for the last 18 years. His dedication and commitment to the County was evident by the time he spent using the skills he had to help the residents of Daviess County. He was an honest and fair man who truly loved the people; his vision and passion for progress was evident by the tireless and selfless hours he devoted to the job.

Danny was a member of the First Christian Church of Gallatin, former president of the Northwest Missouri County Commissioners and served on the boards for the Soil & Water District and MFA where he served on the scholarship fund board. He saw the need and was instrumental in the origination of the 911 system for the County. Danny enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time turkey, deer hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed watching all the Mizzou sports events on TV. Danny was a kind and compassionate man who had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone; he was an inspiration to all who knew him. Danny was a loving husband, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Ann of the home, mother-in-law: Doris Armitage, Brother-in-law: Steven Armitage and wife Anne all of Kansas City, Mo., Sisters-in-law: Drs. Linda Kalivas and husband James of Phoenix, Ariz., Kristi Fugitt and husband Jeff of Austin, Texas, Lisa Armitage of Kansas City, Mo., numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and a host of friends.
