Peggy and Carlin Sperry of Jamesport have constructed four greenhouses on their newly purchased farm located off Hwy. 6 a few miles west of Gallatin. The Sperrys purchased the Froman farm of about 34 acres. The Sperrys continue to live in Jamesport. They rent out the house on the Gallatin farm.

They are building four greenhouses in the pasture just north of the house. Two of the buildings are completely finished and already planted, Carlin said. The other two are ready to put the plastic around and then put in the fill dirt. They should be planted by this week.
The buildings sit two side-by-side. They measure 30×100. They are made of plastic around a metal framework. The buildings will have insulated panels. The north end will have 8×8 doors to allow room for a bobcat. The road to them will eventually all be graveled. Next year, gas heaters will be installed.
All the help with the construction is local and Barny Esbeck is doing the main work.
"We thought it worked out labor-wise just to go ahead and put the buildings up," Carlin said. "We had a little hold up with the weather and waiting for the fans to come in."
He will be growing tomatoes in all four of the greenhouses. In two he will have outside rows of peppers. He plans to sell some at the area produce auctions. He also has a contact in Kansas City for some of the produce.
"We’re pretty excited and happy about the greenhouses," said Peggy. "We think it will be great for the community."
