DCGS member Leon Kerns will teach the class "Help! I’m a Historian: Where Do I Begin?" for the beginning family researcher from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25. Leon’s class will focus on starting the quest for information on family ancestors. His experience of over 30 years of researching will be an asset to those who have never researched family history, or who may have more questions than answers pertaining to beginning the research.

DCGS President Lanita Sconce Smith will teach the class "Help! I’m a Historian: After the Interviews" from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, focusing on Daviess County, Mo., and the surrounding states.

Because 2011 is the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War, researching tips will also include the war between the states. After the family interviews, where do you go to fill in the blanks, and get documentation? Was Missouri a Confederate State or Union State during the War? These questions and so many more will be answered.

Lanita’s 20-plus years experience researching Missouri history, along with her experience researching information on the hard-to-find Civil War veteran, will be an asset to those who are ready for step two and beyond.

Classes are free to DCGS members. Classes are $5 for non-members and can be paid the day of class. Registration is required. Deadline for registration is June 1.

To register or for more information, contact Lanita Sconce Smith at [email protected] or call 660-684-6174 evenings.
