The Winston R-6 Board of Education discussed installing a security surveillance system for the school, but no action was taken.
The board certified election results. The oath was administered to elected board members Barb Youtsey, Shelly Mason and Kendall Weigand. Officers are Barb Youtsey – president, Kendall Weigand – vice president, Shelly Mason – secretary and Lisa Piburn – treasurer.
In other business at the meeting held Wednesday, April 20, budget revisions were approved.
In accordance with state statute, a public hearing was held prior to adopting the calendar.
A retreat was held April 25, at the school to work on school board district goals.
Aug. 9 is HDC Conference teacher Professional Development day.
The Winston R-6 school district received confirmation that the district is in full compliance with the Federal Programs portion of the 2010-2011 MSIP review.
Elementary attendance rate for March was 95.39%.
March Students of the Month are Thomas Kile- third grade and Brooke Heldenbrand- fourth grade. April Elementary Character Education Theme is "perseverance: demonstrating patience and commitment to complete a task."
Spring testing was held. Winston completed testing on April 20. Kindergarten through second grades completed Stanford testing and third through sixth grades participated in MAP testing. Testing season kicked off with an assembly with a skit by the teaching staff.
The end of school field trips are as scheduled: Kindergarten through second grade to Kansas City on April 29; third through fifth to Kansas City on May 6; and sixth grade to Maryville on May 12.
Kindergarten through sixth grade students have been working very well with Study Island. Each teacher blocks a set amount of time each day for this. Study Island is an online curriculum resource, aligned with the Missouri grade level Expectations for each class. Students can do various online activities at school, or login at home to test their knowledge.
The elementary schedule for next year will work tutoring and intervention time for struggling students so they can get extra time during the school day.
March high school attendance was 95.90%
Students of the Month are Courtney Riggs and Nathan Hiley.
MAP tests were April 12 and EOC tests were April 27.
Steve Johnson returned on April 8 to do an Instructional Practices Survey with our teachers. Data gathered that day will be used to help increase student engagement levels.
The Winston senior class is having baccalaureate at the Methodist Church on May 12 at 7 p.m.
Graduation is at Winston High School at 7 p.m. on May 13.
Winston was presented the Distinction in Performance Award.
Julie Keeter addressed the school board.
Teacher Lee Warford presented health insurance renewal information on behalf of the Salary and Welfare Committee.
Agricultural education teacher summer contract was approved.
Building rental requests were approved from the Winston Girl Scouts and the Winston Alumni Association.
The board accepted the resignation from school secretary Angie Fuller and of high school science teacher Gene Parton. Mr. Parton has accepted a position teaching with the Trenton school district for next year.
The 2011-2012 school calendar was approved by the board. The start date for students next year will be Aug. 22 and the last day of school is scheduled to be May 18. K-12 student registration will be Aug. 10.

Next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17.
