Gallatin R-5 officials announced this week the hiring of Kevin Meyer, a longtime high school coach from Nebraska, as head varsity football coach for 2011-12.
Meyer brings 27 years of coaching experience to GHS, including 18 years as a head football coach. As a head coach, he has taken six teams to the Nebraska High School playoffs. His Doniphan High School teams of 1993 and 1994 each made it to the quarterfinal round. State qualifiers at Fremont High School include teams from 1999, 2001, 2006 and 2008.
Meyers was defensive coordinator for the Papillion-LaVista High School team that won a state championship in 1990. He also served as defensive coordinator for Papillion-LaVista teams that advanced to the semifinals in 1991 and 1992. His offensive coordinator duties at Fremont High School included quarterfinal teams of 1994, 1996, and 1998.
Meyer served as head coach of the 2007 North Shrine Bowl.
Meyer brings a strong weight training resume to GHS, with over 20 years as strength and conditioning coaching duties. He has coached a combined 12 girls and boys Class A state champion powerlifting teams.
Meyer will handle weight training, seventh and eighth grade physical education and health classes at Gallatin.
