Jamesport FFA placed 17th out of 326 chapters in the state, earning a Top Chapter Award at the 83nd Missouri FFA Convention held in April in Columbia. Only 10% of state chapters receive a top chapter designation each year.
Chapter activity awards, sponsored by FCS Financial, are given to chapters achieving excellence in student, chapter and community development. The Jamesport FFA Chapter advisor is Amy Holder.
The Jamesport FFA student development activities include a proficiency workshop where members get help preparing their applications for area competitions. This year 56% of the in-school membership submitted an application for area competition. Jamesport FFA students also participate in other student development activities such as: the state FFA convention, Area II Recreation Night and the chapter banquet.
Chapter development activities are designed to promote excellence within the chapter. Jamesport FFA members took part in the Golden Ticket to Success. This event was aimed at recruiting incoming freshman with a skit that shows the benefits of joining FFA. Other activities include the summer barbecue, National FFA Week, the chapter officer leadership development and the livestock show supporter’s banquet.
Jamesport FFA members are involved community development such as the junior livestock show that the city coordinates with the summer fair. The show is responsible for entertaining local residents as well as drawing in tourists. Other community development activities the FFA chapter participates in is the Adopt-A-Highway program, Adopt-A-Family program, the Veterans Day program, and the FFA petting zoo.
The top chapters are submitted to the National FFA Organization where they compete for the National FFA Chapter Award. The competition will be this fall at the 84th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
