Sheriff’s Office

Property damage was reported at the Winston Pit Stop by owner Jeffrey Speaker on April 15. He provided surveillance video of a white male who attempted to tamper with the computer on fuel pump #1 in an effort to obtain fuel. The attempt was unsuccessful.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:54 p.m. April 14, when a Jeep Cherokee SUV (1997-2003) drove up to the pump from the west. It appears that a white female was operating the vehicle. A white male exited the vehicle from the passenger side and tampered with the computer section of the pump. If you have any information, please contact the sheriff’s office at 663-2031.

Matthew Rounds, 33, Maysville, and Ethan Sams, 21, Lee’s Summit, were each charged with misdemeanor assault third degree on April 15. They were both incarcerated in the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail when the two inmates got into a fight in H tank. Each is being held on $250 bond on these charges.

Toby Griffin, 39, Trenton, was arrested April 18 for misdemeanor DWI. He was processed, held for 12 hours for detoxification, and released with a summons.

Jeffrey DeMarco, 45, Lee’s Summit, was arrested April 18 for failure to appear on a misdemeanor charge of no valid license. He posted $700 bond.

Karen Smith, 28, Lock Springs, was arrested April 13 for misdemeanor endangering welfare of child. She posted $1,000 bond.

Sarah Bell, 25, Gallatin, was arrested April 15 for failure to appear on a felony charge of passing bad checks. She posted $5,000 bond.

John McKinney, 44, Coffey, was arrested April 18 on a St. Joseph Police Department warrant for failure to appear on a traffic ticket. He posted $275 bond.

County Commission

James Lewis, road and bridge supervisor, reported that they will continue working in Jackson Township this week.

Clay Porter, maintenance, met with the commission regarding repairs needed for the elevator and plumbing problems on the east side of the building.

The LEPC meeting was postponed.

Sheriff Ben Becerra met with the commission regarding repairs on deputies’ cars.

In the afternoon, the commission inspected roads in Harrison Township.

Robert Nelson, Lake Viking Church, met with the commission inviting them to a luncheon on May 17 with a special speaker on the topic of bringing the community together.
