Memorial services for Monica Hanson were held April 9, 2011, at the Gallatin R-5 High School gymnasium. Family visitation was held one hour prior to the service with inurnment at a later date at the Lake Viking Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monica Hanson Memorial Fund or the Gallatin Bulldog Pride Band. Arrangements were by McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin.

Monica Laurine Hanson, 18, passed away April 6, 2011, at her home at Lake Viking. Monica was born Oct. 28, 1992, to Jim and Bobbi (Sharp) Hanson in Blue Springs. She spent her childhood in Independence, moving to Lake Viking in 2000. Monica attended school in Winston until the sixth grade, transferring to the Gallatin High School where she was a senior.

Monica was a dedicated member of the Gallatin Bulldog Pride Band since seventh grade and currently served as drum major; participating in any band event was always a highlight. She was also a three-year member of the National Honor Society and a member of FBLA where she had just qualified to go to state for her achievements in accounting. Monica was an honor student who excelled in academics.

She had a passion for reading and writing poetry and enjoyed drawing as well. She loved to shop and spend time with her friends. Monica was a faithful member of the Gallatin First Baptist Church.

Monica touched many lives during her short time on this earth and will be forever remembered by her parents, brothers and sister, grandparents and her many friends.

Survivors include her parents Jim and Bobbi Hanson of the home, siblings, Ty and Stanley Hanson of the home, Megan Curtis of Cameron; grandparents, Bob and Marty Sharp, Jill Hiatt and Jim Kinder, all of Gallatin, and David and Deanna Hanson of Grain Valley; aunts and uncles and a host of friends.
