Ami Lane and Amy Gingerich of the Brushy Squirrels 4-H club of Jamesport and Madison Ishmael and Tanner Johnson of the Knee-Hi 4-H Club of Gallatin were among the 253 delegates attending the annual State 4-H Teen Conference, April 2-3, at the University of Missouri, Columbia.

The 11-13 year old delegates trained in healthy food choices, leadership skills, international 4-H opportunities and service learning. These 4-H youth created cards to be sent to U.S. Soldiers by their children, wrote letters to troops, and made origami cranes that Osh Kosh B’Gosh will match with articles of clothing for Japanese youth impacted by recent disasters. In addition, they prepared kits for the 4-H LIFE program by cutting fringes into blanket fabric.

The 4-H LIFE program serves children with an incarcerated parent and will use the kits to make blankets in a community service activity of their own, which will be donated to a charitable organization.

The Teen Conference is planned and facilitated by the older teens of the Missouri State 4-H Council and their 4-H faculty advisors.
